Gamification stuff we love: Democracy Street
The Houses of Parliament want to commemorate the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta and the 750th birthday of Parliament itself, through Democracy Street, a new mobile web app, where people can explore and discover streets that have a connection to democracy. The crowd sourced map then becomes a work of digital art, which will go on display later this year.

The Houses of Parliament really wish for the population to become involved, pinning streets and finding out the links to democracy. If you are into treasure hunts and fact finding mission, this could be a fun family challenge. In return for discovering you earn badges and you are contributing to digital or better again you could become arty yourself and write a poem, draw, paint, create a game… your imagination is the limit.

I like the fact that the app makes it easy to contribute and it will appeal to curiosity minded people, in election time it may well be a good educational exploration. I would even wonder is there scope to vote for some of the current democratic leaders to have their street name… or do you only become worthy after the a certain time?

I think it is a nice and family friendly way to introduce a rather heavy subject, which we are still all affected by on a regular basis. I liked playing SimCity and managing cities democratically wasn’t always easy, I also took students to different Parliaments to have them learn more about how constitutions, law and representation is the same or different in different nations. So I guess you could say I am interested to find out more and take part in this campaign which also brings on board gamification elements such as crowd sourcing, social sharing, exploring missions, creation of art and badges.
